Hoping you guys can help. I just purchased a 67rs Camaro that originally came with a Rochester Quad. The car now has a Holley. The Rochester was in a box that came with the car but after checking the numbers through your site it doesn't appear to be the original carb. Numbers are stamped inside a round circle and reads 7044618. The car was a California car with a.i.r. emission system with auto tranny. Made in 1974? Thanks!

Not a valid carb number. At least not on the internet. Might have to check my books. What is stamped on the driver's side rear part of the carb? There should be a vertical stamp. Something like 702xxxx or 1705xxxx. Should be a date below it as well. Please post a photo. Also, what engine is in your RS Camaro?

7037213  and 2726 right under those numbers.  327/275 hp.

 That carb is a Service Replacement, hence the date code. 272nd day of 1976. The correct carb for your car is 7037212.

Thank you. I guess the 7037212 will be hard to find if I wanted the correct carb for my car.

early- 7037202
mid---7037212
late---7037218

My car was built in mid December of 1966

 Not sure. This is a quote from CRG's website:

The "early", "mid" and "late" indications in parentheses are relative. A carburetor change could have occurred fairly early in production, so "early" could mean only a few weeks or months into production and "late" would mean anything after that. Or the change may have occurred near the end of model year. If you are looking for a carburetor for an application with multiple versions, don't go by the I.D. number, but by the date of the carburetor.

 Don't know if that helps any.

Just trying to understand the numbers.
Since my car was completely built in mid December of 1966 with California emissions and auto. tranny, wouldn't the numbers look something like this?
703651_ (last number being even for Auto. tranny)

703- 1960's with a.i.r.
6    - year produced
5    -Quadrajet (4 bbl) California standards
??  - even number representing auto tranny

I just started trying to figure this out yesterday and obviously you guys are the experts so please forgive me if I appear dense.

 Here is an example and we are talking about 7037212.

 703- 1960's with A.I.R (California Only Smog equipment)
 7- 1967
 2- Quadrajet
 1- Chevrolet
 2- Automatic Transmission

 That is a general breakdown of the stamped number. Note, this is not the BEST way to breakdown the stamped number or tell what originally came on your car. There are manuals that will give you carb # and application to vehicle. So, the 7037212 is the correct carb for your application.

Why wouldn't it be a "5" as in Quadrajet (4 bbl) California standards? If not, when would 5 be used if not in my California car?

 You can't always believe the numbers. For an example, a lot of carbs have the last digit as an even number, but yet, they came on a Manual Transmission car. As well as, whether it was a Federal or California carb. Don't know why they did it that way. :o

The 6th number "1" indicating it indicates Chevrolet. Could it also be a "0" or a "2"? I hope that is the end of my curiosity Ethan.

 Not for your application, Jeff. Some carbs did use a "0" or "2", but not for your case. Don't know why they did it in this format though.
